What is ABA therapy?
ABA therapy is an abbreviation for therapy that uses applied behavior analysis to bring about behavior change. You may also hear ABA therapy referred to simply as “ABA.” In the field of ABA, we use the scientific method to bring about behavior change. These changes may include reducing problem behaviors, but more often, the focus of therapy is to teach skills. We focus on teaching our learners what to do (as opposed to telling them what not to do), because teaching new skills is a more effective way to ensure safety, independence, and happiness. The methods that we use in ABA are highly individualized and focus on a multitude of areas, all with the goal of helping our learners access society and determine the course of their own life as much as possible.
